Belgium!

Brussels

Here are a few pictures from our trip to Belgium. Below - Leaving Paris on the express train to Brussels. A great ride! Highly recommended. Makes BART seem like a steam train! The trip was fun despite our jetlag. The hotel we stayed in in Paris was pretty bad. We canceled our reservation for the return trip and stayed in a name brand hotel near the airport instead.

The picture on the right (upper) is of us taking a walk with our little princess! She decided not to wear shoes on this day. We had a few experiences like that but mostly she was a great traveller.

Bottom right is the newly restored Grand Place. It was very nice. I had somehow imagined it as being bigger. There was an oompah band playing at the time. All the band members looked like they made a day trip from the geriatric ward. In any event it was nice.

We went from Brussels to Brugge, and decided to stay there for the rest of our time in Belguim.

Brugge

Above: On the way to Brugge from Brussels Emma fell asleep in the car. We changed our plan slightly and went straight to Ostend, a coastal town about 20 miles from Brugge. Emma had a nice time on the sand.

Above right: When we got to Brugge, we rented some bikes. Emma had other plans - she wanted to ride the horse and buggies that took tourists around town. After hearing "I wanna ride the horse" about a million times, she got distracted by the flowers.

Second down: We took a boat tour around town. In fact we took 3. I had expected to hear the same story each time but the information was almost completely different on each boat.

Third down: One day we decided to climb the tall tower in the background. Emma decided she wanted to be carried up(366 steps). She did however come down all the steps by herself.

Fourth down: Around the corner from our first hotel was this shop. If you got postcards from us that is where they came from.

Below: The Market Square in Brugge.

Below right: It had to happen sooner or later! Ice Cream was a huge hit and would have become the snackfood of champions if it wasn't for divine intervention (Mom and Dad said no).

Middleburg

We made a day trip from Brugge up to Middleburg, in Southern Holland. Dorothy came down to see us and we had lunch together. The picture on the right is my Aunt's house. She was in Spitzbergen (Very Northern Norway) at the time. Below is a picture of the miniature Zeeland that I used to go to as a young boy. Emma was mildly interested in it, but was very interested in the jumping thing in the background and the swings.

I put the windmill picture here because I realized there are no pictures of me anywhere on the page. I kind of added it after the fact and didn't want to reformat the whole page. This picture is from the "I want to ride the horse" trip but it was taken after we found the flowers.
